The deck at IncahootsFor those of us who enjoy convertibles, eating outdoors is similar in a way.  If it’s not too hot I love to eat at a place with a patio.  Heck, I like eating on the porch at home also.  A cool place to eat is also an excuse to drive, especially if it’s somewhere that has an interesting drive just to get there.

The Birmingham News recently compiled a list of their 10 favorite outdoor eating places in the area. Two of them are my favorites, Incahoots and the Tip Top Grill.

Incahoots is in my actual home town of Helena, and it is a great spot like no other. Where else can you sit on a covered deck, eat good food (and drinks) and be only feet away from a beautiful waterfall? For me it’s just down the road, but those coming from other areas get a nice little drive which is only a few miles but takes you back to a historic small town with all the charm you could ever want.

Tip Top Grill is excellent also, but more of a “hot dog stand”.  Great for a burger or dog, and made on the spot breakfast also.  It also has a great view overlooking the Oxmoor Valley and the Ross Bridge golf course.  The drive up Shades Crest Road from Hwy. 150 (John Hawkins Pky.) is easy but a few curves and good views make it an interesting drive. I am lucky enough to get to drive this road every day to/from work.
