1989 20th Anniversary Trans Am
1989 20th Anniversary Trans Am

Today we have something fairly rare and special.  For the 20th Anniversary of the Trans Am, Pontiac stole some serious GM parts out of the warehouse and slipped them into what otherwise appeared to be a standard white Trans Am GTA.  What’s so special?  How about a turbo 3.8 liter V6.  Sound familiar?  It should, it’s the engine from the legendary Buick GNX.

Yes boys and girls, this little TA was officially rated at 250 crank horsepower to not cause a Corvette revolt.  But dyno testing at the time showed it was really around 300 crank horses and 350 foot-pounds of torque.  IN 1989!  Sure, you have that in your Civic now, but that was some serious power back then.

There were only 1,555 of these made, making this one extremely rare.  This one has T-tops and leather seats, as 1,324 of them were made.  This one is in extremely good condition and I have witnessed it driven weekly.  You can’t get much cooler than that.
