Imagine a television how-to series with good ratings and a rabid hobbyist fan base that spends lots of money on their hobby. Sounds like the perfect setup for launching a magazine to cater to this cultivated audience. There is just such a TV series, called Powerblock TV on Spike. The “Powerblock” is a set of 30 minute shows, each focused on hot rods, trucks, or 4x4s. They just launched a magazine. So what’s the big deal?
The interesting thing is that the magazine is not actually printed. It’s online only, and it’s free. This is yet another sign post on the one-way road between the old printed media and the future digital-only media. They certainly aren’t the first, and won’t be the last.
