I bet you’ve never seen one of these in person. You probably know that the Checker Cab company sold a few public versions of their famous cab sedan. (Note: revised) They also produced a stretched version called the Aerobus that was mostly used for airport and hotel service.
I saw this a few times passing by and assumed it was some sort of Chrysler stationwagon since I couldn’t really see the back. But when I stopped to take a picture of it I realized that this had to be a Checker. But there’s a bonus. Click on the first picture and look closely at the side windows. This thing has EIGHT DOORS! After a little research it looks like Checker made not only a 8 door, but an 6 door also! The
5 minutes on Google extensive research I have done indicates that the 8 door was far more common, the six door is extremely rare.
I bet if I track down the owner of the lot he would sell it to me for $50. This would be a cool daily driver, painted School Bus Yellow with a checkered stripe on the side of course. Or maybe rodded out, hood snorkel, huge drag slicks in back, with candy-apple red paint and flames on the front.
