1982 Honda Accord LX

Actually I got things out of sequence last week. Before we got the Plymouth Voyager last week, I sold the old Chevy C-10 and got something else. We planned on getting the Voyager, so we weren’t going to need a truck anymore. But it had to be cheap, and so I found an old 1982 Honda Accord LX Sedan for around $1,200. It was a five speed, and was in fair shape for it’s 15 year old age. The photo here is not the actual car, mine was light blue metallic. Unfortunately it ran decent but never quite right because the complex CVCC setup had gone bad and they had but a Weber carburetor on it which also killed the cruise control. I ended up getting a “buy here-pay here” car lot to give me $400 for it, and was happy to unload it.

Back to where we were, we had just given back the Saturn wagon, and were in need of another vehicle. What we had really wanted to begin with was an Accord wagon but didn’t want to spend that much. We decided to go ahead and get it because we knew it would be a good car with no problems. It was. These are actual pictures of our 1996 Accord LX wagon.

Several of you will remember this one, it is famous for a trip to Indiana to Chuck’s wedding. We picked up Duckie & (now) Mrs. Duckie at the Louisville Airport, so we had a full load of 4 adults plus a 2 year old and luggage from Louisville to Chuck’s house. The fun part was the trip back. We were running late for the return flight departure in Louisville so time had to be made up. Luckily there is a good four lane road (interstate?) across southern Indiana, and on a Sunday morning in 1997 you had it all to yourself. Let’s just say the top speed of a fully loaded 96 Accord LX wagon (non-VTEC) with an automatic is around 95 mph. It handled it fine, but I recommend a brake upgrade if you are going to try this regularly, I noticed a little fade when I did see a few Crown Vics.
