For a few short years Subaru decided owning the snow ski, granola, and dork markets wasn’t enough. So they built a wacky doorstop called the XT. The later XT6 version was a great little car for the price. But when the time came to update the XT they went nuts.
The SVX is a car that most people see and have no idea what it is, where it came from, or if it’s been smuggled into the U.S. It looks like the love child of a first-gen Ford Probe and an alien spaceship. When it was released the SVX was the most expensive Subaru ever, by about $10,000! And for all that money you still only get half windows, forcing you to open your door to take possession of your Big Mac combo.
A loaded 1997 SVX LSi stickered for almost $37K, so it’s surprising that so many were sold. From 1992-1997 Subaru managed to sell over 14,000 SVXs in the U.S., but they are a rare find only 10-15 years later.
