At first glance these appear to be “K Cars”, but that is not quite true. I bet there are a bunch of shared parts, but technically this is a larger platform designed after the K. According to WikiPee the “conservative” styling was on the orders of Lee Iacocca, who apparently was trying to kill Chrysler after saving it only a few years before.
This model was replaced by the Intrepid. If you spend too much time trying to understand how you go from this turd to the Intrepid your head will explode. Despite the fact that every Intrepid built (and Neon, etc.) has fallen apart by now, the Intrepid/Concorde was an incredible leap forward for Chrysler at the time. The car here was just a waste of time, and shows why Iacocca had to retire.
