1976 Monte Carlo

Here’s another gem I found lying in the parking lot at work. The usual sources indicate that it is a 1976 model. It is as rough as it looks, but it’s all there. These were everywhere in the early 80’s. Chevy sold over 400,000 in 1976 alone. There won’t be that many Camrys or Accords sold this year. That’s a lot of freakin’ Montees and it wasn’t even Chevy’s volume car then.

This design came out in 1973 and was the Motor Trend “Car of the Year”. Motor Trend sucked well before we were old enough to know it. This car could also be had as a Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass. I have driven a low (50K) mileage 1973 Olds Cutlass. How? My grandmother had one until about 1990, I drove it several times with her riding shotgun.

Of course nothing says performance like (only two) white letter tires that say “PERFORMANCE RADIAL GT” on the side. And nothing says class like two chrome exhaust tips mounted so they stick out way past the rear bumper…
